Director Biology, Drug Discovery

About – As the Director Biology, Drug Discovery you will play a pivotal role in shaping the strategic direction of our client’s drug discovery projects. This innovative company work on a broad portfolio of projects and are looking for someone with extensive experience in drug discovery for small molecules within industry, either in neuroscience or immunology. The role requires someone with experience leading teams and an in-depth and comprehensive knowledge of the entire drug discovery process from target selection and validation to lead optimisation.

Location – Flemish Region, Belgium (On-site)

Responsibilities

• Provide strong expertise and strategic leadership for the biology discovery team’s drug discovery projects.
• Select and deliver new drug discovery projects, leading the biology discovery team from hit identification up to lead optimisation.
• Manage and build relationships with both internal and external partners.
• Ensure that project objectives and timelines are met for multiple projects simultaneously.
• Review and analyse the data and provide input to senior leadership for go and no-go decisions on projects.

Experience

• PhD in Biology / Immunology / Neuroscience or other related field.
• At least 7 years of experience in industry working within small molecule drug discovery within the field of immunology or neuroscience.
• Comprehensive understanding of the drug discovery process from target stage to preclinical candidate selection, with a deep knowledge of pharmacology.
• Experience managing people and working collaboratively within cross-functional groups.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
