Head of Clinical Sciences

We are seeking an experienced leader to establish and expand the Clinical Science capabilities within Clinical Development. As the Head of Clinical Sciences the role involves mentoring and developing a high-performing team of Clinical Scientists and ensuring excellence in clinical trial design and execution. The ideal candidate will have substantial experience in Phase 1–3 clinical development, including large-scale, multi-national cardiovascular outcome trials.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build and lead the Clinical Science function, fostering a culture of excellence and collaboration.
  • Recruit, train, and develop Clinical Scientists, ensuring high performance in a matrixed environment.
  • Partner with Clinical Development, Clinical Research, and other function leaders to define workflows and optimize resource allocation across programs.
  • Oversee the quality and effectiveness of Clinical Science deliverables, including study protocols, data review plans, and regulatory documentation.
  • Develop standards and tools to ensure data integrity, clinical relevance, and interpretability.
  • Support program teams with scientific content for advisory boards, investigator meetings, and regulatory filings.
  • Serve as a Clinical Science Program Lead for complex studies as needed, providing oversight to team members.
  • Contribute to leadership forums, review boards, and operational councils.

Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in a scientific discipline (MD, PhD, PharmD, or MS) required.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in clinical research or drug development in the pharmaceutical or biotech industry.
  • Proven ability to lead and develop Clinical Science teams, with budget and resource management experience.
  • Strong knowledge of clinical trial design, methodology, and regulatory compliance.
  • Experience with cardiovascular outcome trials is preferred.
  • Track record of managing multiple Phase 2 and pivotal Phase 3 programs, with submission and regulatory inspection experience a plus.
  • Exceptional communication, collaboration, and leadership skills
